As the tallest peak on Mount Desert Island, Cadillac Mountain is well known as the first place in the United States one can view the sunrise (from October 7th through March 6th). It is not uncommon for visitors to Acadia National Park to experience an early morning fog.

Off the coast of Massachusetts (where the Parker River and the Merrimack River flow into the Gulf of Maine), lies a the beautiful barrier island called Plum Island. Visitors to the island will find both the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and the Sandy Point State Park to be outstanding birding spots thanks to the location along many migration paths.

13,000 years ago, the Quechee Gorge was formed by glaciers during the Ice Age. The Woodstock Railroad Company built the original bridge to span the 165 ft. gorge in 1875. This is the view from the bridge (which has since been converted to a roadway).

Cape Neddick "Nubble" Lighthouse - York Beach, Maine
Not far off the eastern point of Cape Neddick lies a rocky island called the "Nubble". On it was built the Cape Neddick Light, which began operation in July of 1879. The beacon itself is still maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard today.
